About Me
My name is Mike Herrera, I am an avid entrepreneur born and raised in a small town called Poteet, Texas. A bit on my background, I have been an entrepreneur since about age 15. I really enjoy entrepreneurship, finance and economics and always seek opportunities to improve my situation and improve the lives of others as much as I can. I currently live in Texas and also lived on the east coast for about 4 years and traveled quite a bit both stateside and overseas.
I am prior military with training in civil and mechanical engineering and logistics. I served my 8yr term and have deployed overseas to Iraq in 2004 for 1yr where I received the Army Commendation Metal for performance as well as a few other recognitions. I have a combined total of 8yrs of logistics experience, 3 in military and 5 in the civilian sector. As for conventional and self employed work history I have well rounded experience in sales, management, instructing, tech support, computer and information systems, and web design. I also had plenty of blue collar experience that included service sector jobs, carpentry, mechanics and welding. Since getting out of the military I now work for a subsidiary for Boeing specializing in real time satellite based and ground based logistics information systems for the military and commercial sectors. The company started very small where I did my part in helping our company grow to a mid-sized company and on the verge of becoming quite larger. We were eventually purchased by Boeing and continuing to do well albeit things have gotten harder in this economy. Through changing corporate strategy, re-structuring and purchasing other companies we have managed well. I have worked stateside as well as in Afghanistan and Kuwait helping to integrate and implement some of our technologies. I currently do not have a degree, but slowly working towards a Bachelor in finance I hope to leverage in my own business.
Outside of my military and logistics background I also own a web and graphic design business based online that allows you to custom design signs, banners and garments conveniently online and purchase. The brick and mortar storefront is in a town called Pleasanton, Texas and will be looking to expand, hopefully quite rapidly into the San Antonio are within the next 1-2 years. This business is still in its infancy, I am in the midst of starting it and things are pulling together quite nicely. I also have a website besides this one with a few blog articles I wrote on the topics of entrepreneurship, economics, finance and other related topics. I basically provide you the learning foundation that helped me be successful and it’s definitely a recommended read and my way of archiving some of my knowledge and sharing it with others. Lastly I have ventured in stock and options trading, precious metals investing and own income property in south Texas and have plans to continue investing in real estate and commodities. I have a very good understanding of markets and economics both from a macro and micro level and tend to pay attention to the political and economic pressures on our country and on myself as an individual.
Since about age 26, I've have zero debt, I have good credit, a nice 2006 deep burgundy Corvette, a truck, a motorcycle and various electronic toys and the luxury to travel a bit and do fairly well for myself.. Why do I tell you these things, not to brag and not so you'll think I'm full of myself because I try to be humble, share my knowledge and help those who are genuinely interested in helping themselves. I am now about to turn 29 and just a normal guy from a small town in south Texas who is doing quite well for himself. I tell you these things so you will take me seriously and see that I'm someone who at a young age managed to do what most take 20 or 30 years to do, including purchasing a home, land, vehicles, starting a business to include buying pricey capital equipment (owned not leased) and it is all paid for, in cash not credit and owned by me! I managed to do all this in a short period of time, not because my parents were wealthy, as a matter of fact we were very... very well below the poverty line; but because I have a very good perspective on learning and applying what I've learned as well as learning to understand people and what they value. My road to success was difficult, but has been getting easier as time goes on.
